Rule 1. In order to enhance the learning effects of the required general English courses,
the Center for English Language Teaching (CELT) is implementing the “English Language Proficiency
Enhancement Program,” which consists of two parts: the remedial English classes and the self-study.
Rule 2. The English Language Proficiency Enhancement Program is applicable to
the Day 4-Year College students whose CSEPT scores are below 200.
This will base on the highest CSEPT score of a student during their time of study at Wenzao.
Rule 3. The English Language Proficiency Enhancement Program is conducted on a weekly basis,
with two extra hours incorporated into the general English course.
Rule 4. The self-study is applicable to all Day 4-Year College students taking the general English classes.
To promote a spirit of autonomy, the class teacher informs the students of the plan
and encourages them to voluntarily take part in it.
Rule 5. The Self-study Plan Guidelines
1.Students should go to the Language Diagnostic & Consulting Center (hereinafter as LDCC)
to use the English learning resources:
self-learning software, supplementary materials, mini-club, prescription courses, speaking practice,
learning diagnosis, learning consultancy and learning lectures:
a. Students whose self-study hours have reached 10 hours can get additional 3 points
of the overall in-class performance grade.

of the overall in-class performance grade.
2.The following self-learning activities can be included in the hours of Proficiency Enhancement Program
every time the student goes to the LDCC for self-study.
It is compulsory to obtain certificates
except for speaking practice, learning diagnosis, learning consultancy, and learning lectures.

with all the additional points earned in this program.
Rule 6. The Implementation of the Student Self-study Plan
1.Implementation period is from the 1st week of each semester to the week before the final exam.
2.Teachers of the General English courses may inform their students of the plan in the first 2 weeks of the semester
and encourage them to take part in the program.
Teachers may remind their students of the plan once again in the weeks after the mid-term exam
to advocate the program throughout the semester.
3.From the 1st week of a semester on, students can log in to the Dr. E-learning
platform to book the advisors for diagnosis of their learning difficulties and
receive recognized self-study hours. When students finish their self-study,
they need to keep all their LDCC hours in record for calculation
of self-study hours by the end of a semester. Students whose CSEPT score is higher
than 240 (and above) may make their own appointment of the software
and speaking practice that are suitable for them.
4.In the last 2 weeks of a semester, students need to submit their LDCC
self-study hour record as well as the copy of course related certificates
to their teachers, who will use the logs as reference for the addition of points.
Rule 7. The above rules will take effect after approval
by the CELT’s Curriculum Meeting and General Meeting
as well as the College’s Affairs Meeting, with verification
by the University’s Academic Affairs Meeting; as will any revisions.
