Oxford Wide Angle Photography Contest 

 The brief

For this contest we invite you to share something familiar to you: a place, an object, person or moment and show us a different angle and the story behind it. Be creative and original.

Entry Rules

1. Entrants must be English Language teachers or students over the age of 18 (by closing date - November 4, 2019).

2. Only one entry per named entrant will be accepted. No group entries will be accepted.

3. All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not have been entered in any other competition or published in any publication or website.

4. To enter the competition the entrant must complete the entry form at www.oup.com/elt/wide-angle-contest, and submit it along with the photograph and written story which comply with the competition brief. Completed model release forms www.oup.com/elt/wide-angle-contest must also be submitted if necessary.

5. All entries must be received by Oxford University Press by 11.59pm GMT on November 4, 2019.

6. Any entry which is incomplete, illegible, late, inappropriate, or otherwise does not comply with the rules may be deemed invalid at the sole discretion of OUP. Inappropriate content may include (but is not limited to) depictions of drug abuse, violence and pornography.

7. The competition is not open to employees of Oxford University Press, their families or other persons connected with the competition, or public officials, working at any Ministry of Education or similar government institution.

8. In the event of any dispute regarding the competition, the decision of OUP shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.

9. Entrants must not put themselves or others at risk when taking part in this competition.

The Photograph

1. Photographs must be submitted in the form of a .jpeg or .png, and in the highest quality resolution possible, the maximum file size is 50 megabytes.

2. Whilst minimal editing of photographs is permitted, excessive sharpening, noise reduction and colour saturation techniques should be avoided.

3. All photographs must be original. If required the entrant must be able to provide the original photograph or metadata or sequence of previous photographs to prove the photograph was taken by the entrant.

4. It is the entrant’s responsibility to obtain permission to take photographs of individuals and their property. If the photograph contains any recognisable individuals – the entrant must have a completed model release form www.oup.com/elt/wide-angle-contest for each recognisable individual with their entry.

5. Photographs must not contain any personal information about individuals, such as names, contact numbers and addresses.

The Story

1. Stories must be written in English, with reasonable grammar, spelling and using appropriate vocabulary, so that the meaning can be understood (British English and American English variations are both acceptable).

2. Stories must not exceed 150 words.

3. Stories must not contain personal information about individuals – such as names, contact numbers and addresses and names.

4. All stories must be the original work of the entrant.

The prize

First prize is an iPad Air with a customised case, 1 year subscription to Adobe Lightroom, a selection of English Language subscriptions and apps, and the winning photograph professionally printed and framed.

Runners-up and People's Choice winners get prizes and their framed photographs too!
